The DFF is a long-term partner of the Ford Foundation. Not
only did the Foundation convene the group of development finance leaders
that evolved into the DFF and provide funding for the DFF annual meetings,
but the DFF has also been invited on an annual basis to participate in the
meetings of the Foundation's Affinity Group on Development Finance (AGDF).
The AGDF is comprised of Foundation staff from around the world who make grants and program-related investments in the
field of development finance.
The DFF has worked with the AGDF on the conceptualization and design of a
proposed investment facility that would focus on supporting innovations in
development finance practice. The DFF has terms this proposed fund the
Global Finance Development Facility (GFDF).
The GFDF would serve DFIs which are able to
bridge public and private sector sources of capital and thereby leverage
their resources; DFIs who use innovative Capital
Plus strategies to reach the poor — to show models of how this can be done;
organizations that provide capacity building or other supporting services
(rating, business development services, dissemination); and industry
associations/networks/researchers for establishing standards and working on
the enabling environment, policy, and regulation.
